Our Values

Sustainability

Since its founding, Lyria has followed a path of sustainability in a direct and authentic way that is in harmony with Lyria’s history and values. Lyria’s textiles are designed to be timeless, as modern now as they were decades ago, and as they will be decades from today. Founder Riccardo Bruni believes that reusing materials is the simplest way to be a good steward of the environment, creating new textiles from old or excess fabric. Though newly popular, recycling fabrics is an idea that, for him, has its roots in 19th century Prato when textile makers were careful not to waste any material resources. Lyria offers recycling and upcycling services to fashion brands which may want to make use of their leftover materials and garments. In modern terms, Lyria has defined a protocol that covers its entire supply chain, refining production parameters with a view to creating textiles while minimizing environmental and social impact at every step. In 2019, Lyria received a prestigious award from Première Vision for a wool-and-polyester fabric made with recycled ocean plastic and celebrated for its luxurious hand-feel. Yet Bruni feels that this sort of technological innovation on the part of textile makers acts as a mere band-aid for the more deeply rooted issue of plastic pollution. Lyria publishes a detailed annual sustainability report according to the international GRI standard. It can be downloaded here  (Italian only).

A Cleaner Process

For both the environment and the health of our clients and employees, Lyria is working to reduce and manage the use of chemicals in our textiles. We are implementing the 4sustainability Chemical Management Protocol for eliminating toxic and harmful substances in production through the ZDHC MRSL. This is an ongoing journey which steadily makes our process of production cleaner with each passing year.

Our People

Lyria has immense respect for its most important resource: the human beings who bring the company to life. We work to ensure that all of Lyria’s employees receive fair salaries and are able to maintain the dignity of a balanced life, even in a world ruled by the tyranny of productivity. We provide a physical working environment that lifts the heart, with beautiful glimpses of the Tuscan hills. We aim to treat all employees with compassion and respect, supporting equal rights and anti-discrimination policies. Our outsourced production is aimed at preserving the distinctive local skill of the region, supporting elderly artisans with a unique professional heritage. We believe that true sustainability does not exist in a company in which any worker are underpaid and mistreated. For more detailed information, download our Code of Ethics .
